- rg9400November 1, 2024I am editing this review after finishing season 1. It went from being something I really enjoyed to one of my all-time favorites and something I consider a genuine masterpiece. This is a story about looking back by looking forward, about understanding the importance of living in the moment, about the importance of the little moments. Each arc, whether it goes by within a single episode or lasts multiple episodes, is suffused with emotion and impact, with an intentionality that is almost surprising considering how effortless and cozy the show feels. The animation is stunning, especially the visualizations of the magic, and Evan Call's soundtrack is top tier. It has been a privilege to watch Frieren's journey and reflection on her past, obvserving both unfold simultaneously as we learn the way she learns about the importance of small details she originally ignored. Honestly, everyone should watch this beautiful and poignant anime. Original Review: This is ongoing, but I am really enjoying it. I appreciate how it takes a fantasy setting and the concept of an elf who outlives all her companions to explore how and why relationships between people matter. Using her unique perspective, the story is able to help accentuate humanity from the outside looking in. The side characters also get focus, so we get to see their character growth juxtaposed against the initial companions and Frieren. Sometimes the episodes feel inconsequential or too subdued, but they all have such a gentle and cozy feeling to them that I do not mind.
- NicolasOctober 8, 2024When the D&D campaign is over, what happen to your level 20 elf ?

- CroxeeFebruary 13, 2026peak :)
- zathursJanuary 30, 2026It's taken a bit to know but what this show has given me but it is simply... Air It just fills me with it. Somehow it's 2 times longer than it is, refreshes me when I didn't know I needed it and leaves me lighter at the end.
- Model RK800January 30, 2026excellent idea, good characters and story pacing, beautiful artwork, the soundtrack is one of my favs alarms in the morning ☕✨ But I'd be lying if I said that it managed to hit the "sweet spot". 🌝🫴
- LJRJanuary 26, 2026This is one of those anime that will eventually be considered a "classic" in the future right next to anime like Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, and Cowboy Beepbop.
- american_shishiJuly 21, 2025Pure Gold! Among the best anime ever made. Emotional, engaging, charming, heartwarming, great pacing and fun characters. Goes in the anime hall of fame.
- Cypress ZimmerDecember 17, 2025holy peak, please do yourself a favor and watch this

- Akhil AbyDecember 18, 2024Amazing anime !! Must watch. It's a beautiful, feel good show. Rated it a bit less because its an ongoing show which makes me sad :( but 10/10
- Chris CNovember 10, 2025What happens to your near-immortal mage AFTER you save the world? Easily one of the best anime series that's come out in at least the last few years, it's a beautiful, thought-provoking... well, "journey". More so than many other fantasy adventure shows, this really feels like it could have been a D&D campaign, full of action but also side stops and humor. As others have said, it's a fairly slow show, but that's intentional and fits with how Frieren experiences things—time just doesn't happen the same for an elf. Do yourself a favor and give this a few episodes to get sucked in and then enjoy a wonderful ride.
- Corrine KocjancicNovember 6, 2025Started slow, but that's part of the build. The character building, backstory, and adventure are unmatched. I know solo leveling took anime of the year (which I also enjoyed!), but in my book...this tops it by yards. It's one of those shows you keep thinking on and digesting long after you finish it.
- Justin HardinOctober 21, 2025Perfection at its finest.
- MaxOctober 3, 2025Simply wow. An incredible anime with an overpowered main character, but what makes it stand out is that Frieren herself is a cool, distant, yet deeply lovable woman. It’s such a refreshing change from the usual male leads in this genre, who are often loud, flashy, or surrounded by romance subplots. Seeing a story driven by a fantastically written female character feels unique and powerful. You could almost call Frieren the opposite of Ainz Ooal Gown — just as strong, but with a completely different presence. A beautiful, thoughtful series, and I can’t wait for season 2.
- BrolaireSeptember 20, 2025My favorite anime are those that have something to say. Evangelion, Steins;Gate, Bebop, Kenshin, TTGL - great characters, writing, settings, and stories that make you think and perhaps approach life just a little differently. For me, Frieren does this extremely well. It's a simple message, but told masterfully through the experiences of a long-lived, stubborn aloof elf and her current compatriots in a fleshed-out fantasy world. The setting still manages to be unique and interesting, even when considered alongside many others in a now-oversaturated isekai lineup. As someone that dislikes spoilers, I won't say much more other than you cannot go wrong with giving this one a watch. Go in blind if you can. Easily one of the top anime of 2023 and an easy recommendation even for non-anime fans.
