Hans Behringer is a commissioner at the Hamburg criminal police. Since his mother Rosa had to move to a senior citizens' home due to her age, he has taken on the care of her dog Elvis, a Norwich Terrier, who also accompanies him in research and questioning about various criminal cases. Not enough that Rosa constantly interferes in her son's life, to make matters worse, Hans' wife Lilo has separated from him and now lives with his boss Seibold, with whom Hans already has a tense relationship. He is only comforted by Anja Nolte, the landlady of his local bar, who not only provides him with home-style cooking.
