Season 5

A divorced father, he has custody of his 23-year-old slacker son Ben, who dreams of wealth and freedom but is too lazy to find a real job. Dr. Katz's receptionist is the acerbic Laura. He spends his free time in the bar "Jacky's 33" with his friends Stan and Julie, the bartender.

Dr. Katz is wary of Ben's new obsession with Feng Shui, but Laura finally finds something to talk about with Ben.

He talks about what HE would do if he were alderman: ""I'd like to bring crime back into the streets and out of the home,"" and get rid of the ""criminal element"" (Ben: ""Criminal element? What, are you Batman?""). Ben immediately begins being his dad's campaign manager, despite Katz's insistence that he is NOT running. (Ben's platform: handicap parking for everyone.) He makes signs and harasses Laura, inviting her over to help with the ""campaign"" (he tells her he used air quotes on the word ""campaign"").

    Episode 13ParanoiaDr. Katz and Ben think someone is trying to break into their apartment in the middle of the night. The next day, they put new locks on the door and bars on the windows. Eventually, they realize they're living in fear and stop being paranoid.

    Episode 14WaltzDr. Katz realizes he'll have to dance at his niece's Rachel's wedding, and he can't dance. Katz asks Laura if she'll help him learn how to waltz, and once he pays her $200 and agrees not to touch her, she accepts. Meanwhile, Ben tries to help as well by renting Katz some instructional tapes on how to waltz, but is annoyed when Katz says he already learned how to waltz from Laura.
