A divorced father, he has custody of his 23-year-old slacker son Ben, who dreams of wealth and freedom but is too lazy to find a real job. Dr. Katz's receptionist is the acerbic Laura. He spends his free time in the bar "Jacky's 33" with his friends Stan and Julie, the bartender.

    Monte CarloBen decides to go into the celebrity limo business. He moves into Katz's office to do this, which of course annoys Laura.

    Blind DateJulie sets Dr. Katz up on a blind date with Beth, a woman from the Midwest. Eventually, Beth cancels through Julie. Meanwhile, Ben wants to have a tenth anniversary dinner with Dr. Katz, with the anniversary being ten years since Katz and his wife split up.

    FructoseDr. Katz brings a bowl of fruit to the office and sets it on Laura's desk. They eventually get rid of it, because it's going rotten and attracting flies. Meanwhile, Ben gets ideas for new careers and hobbies, such as cake decorating, roller skating, and truck driving. He doesn't follow through on any of them.

    EarringBen wants to change his image. He ultimately decides on an earring, though he starts with a tacky-looking "tape-on" earring before going for the real thing. Dr. Katz doesn't approve. However, Ben gets cold feet at the mall and ultimately doesn't go through with it.

    Koppleman and KatzWhile looking for his birth certificate, Ben discovers that Dr. Katz was a hippie back in the '60s, and had an old flame named Sharon Koppleman. This makes Katz nostalgic, and takes his guitar to the office, wanting Laura to humor him by pretending to be Sharon from his old folk music duo.
  • Guess Who

    Guess WhoKatz gets Ben to play ""Guess Who,"" the old game from Ben's childhood. However, Katz accidentally sees Ben's card via the reflection in the TV, and he uses that information to win, without telling Ben that he had cheated.
  • Day Planner

    Day PlannerDr. Katz loses his day planner, and enlists Ben's help to find it while he's at work. Katz confides in Ben that the day planner contained chapters of a self help book he was writing. It turns out Ben wedged the day planner under their air conditioner to stop its shimmying.

    Studio GuyKatz wants to take up recording again, because he's writing a new song. Ben is opposed to the idea, until Katz tells him he can be the producer.

    Mourning Person92-year-old Aunt Estelle (wife of Uncle Morty) dies, and Katz is asked to give the eulogy.

    L'il HelperKatz puts his back out while putting on his shoes, and Ben, as usual, is a wealth of help. He eventually becomes Katz's primary care-giver, though, driving him to work, carrying him into the office, and turning him over to Laura, warning her that he's heavily doped up on medication.

    Big Fat SlugKatz thinks Ben is watching too much TV, which he is. But he says TV influences people.
  • New Phone System

    New Phone SystemDr. Katz installs a new phone system in the office, but it has numerous bugs: When Ben tries to call the office from home, he is instead re-routed to Laura's home. Additionally, the phone calls often cut out without warning.

    ReunionWhile in the bathtub, Ben gets a phone call. It's Ann Howard, from high school, and there's a five-year reunion coming up. The only thing is that Ben is afraid to go
