Barbara and Pietro are exhausted, they feel like they are going round in circles, but Brenta reassures them: little by little they are pushing Corallo towards the edge of the woods, and sooner or later the man will be forced to make a misstep. And to prove his point he shows them a tree, whose branches appear to have been recently cut. They are close to his last refuge.
