The television series follows Freiburg lawyer Lou Caspari, a dedicated defense attorney who takes her mandatory cases very seriously. In her first case, Caspari defends artist agent Linda Belling, who allegedly pushed her husband off a balcony-a claim she doesn't deny.

Der Fall BellingA defendant who attempts suicide out of remorse and does not want legal representation: Attorney Lou Caspari feels challenged by this mandatory case. Her new client, Linda Belling, is accused of pushing her husband off a balcony. The artist agent does not deny the crime at all; she is filled with guilt and expects a guilty verdict in the upcoming manslaughter trial. But even though Belling speaks only positively about her husband, Lou finds increasing evidence during the trial preparations that the marriage was broken and that her client was being degraded and abused by her husband. Supported by impressive witness testimony, the attorney succeeds in convincingly arguing in court that these factors must be taken into account. Belling is released with a suspended sentence, and Lou Caspari receives widespread praise. Although the attorney is quite satisfied with her own work, Linda Belling's devoted enthusiasm gives her pause. Just like the encounter with a man from Belling's past, who sows doubts about her client's truthfulness in Lou's eyes. Nothing can change that now; the case is over. Nevertheless, the new realization still troubles Lou. When Linda Belling notices this, Lou discovers a completely new and extremely disturbing side of her former client.
