Shadow the Hedgehog was developed by Sega Studio USA (formerly Sonic Team USA), and published by Sega for the GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Similar to Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog is a 3D platform game, but incorporates shooter game elements and has a branching path story structure. The game had mixed reviews, but went on to sell over 1.5 million copies.
