In 1866 Fyodor Dostoevsky published his masterpiece, "Crime and Punishment", one of the most important novels in the history of Russian literature. The story of the student Raskolnikov - who, obsessed by the idea of being above good and evil, ends up killing an old usurer - had already been adapted for Rai by Anton Giulio Majano in 1963. Twenty years later , in 1983, the theater director Mario Missiroli (1934-2014) proposed this second television transposition in five episodes on Rai 2, made entirely in the studio «to be able to thoroughly analyze the torn souls of the protagonists and to create a climate between reality and nightmare".
