Dead Boy Detectives Ratings & Reviews

My quick rating - 7.8/10. Well, that was a refreshing and original addition to the supernatural genre or nearly any genre you would like to place this since it has a bit of everything. Written and produced by the brilliant Neil Gaiman, the show offers a delightful blend of humor, intriguing mysteries, and unique characters that kept me thoroughly entertained. The series follows Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, two young detectives who have decided to forego the afterlife in favor of staying on Earth to investigate crimes involving supernatural and occasional horror elements. This premise sets the stage for a series of captivating and otherworldly cases that are as intriguing as they are entertaining. The characters of Charles (Jayden Revri) and Edwin (George Rexstrew) are well-developed and endearing, each bringing their own quirks and charm to the show. Their dynamic is both humorous and heartwarming, adding a layer of depth to the supernatural investigations they undertake. The supporting cast also contributes significantly to the show's appeal, with each character adding their own unique flavor. Be it a landlord wielding a meat cleaver (Briana Cuoco) or the self-proclaimed cat king (Lukas Gage) each is not only well thought out but acted accordingly. Gaiman's writing shines through in the clever dialogue and well-crafted storylines. The show balances its darker themes with a good dose of humor, making it a fun and engaging watch. The unearthly elements are seamlessly integrated into the plot, providing a fresh take on the detective genre. And let's face it, as I have been saying for years, all cats are plotting their ways to kill us. Visually, the show is impressive, with high-quality production values that bring the eerie and mysterious world to life. The special effects are well-executed, enhancing the supernatural aspects without overshadowing the story. It is just a well-made and highly enjoyable series that stands out for its originality, humor, and compelling characters—offering good fun and entertainment, making it a must-watch for fans of supernatural mysteries. With this strong first season, I have hopeful anticipation for a second season to continue the adventures of Charles and Edwin.
