Pilot (1) Ratings & Reviews
TV.com
Noel Kirkpatrick
The episode showed glimmers of a series that could be a lot of fun once it gets done explaining itself. The key is that Legends of Tomorrow has a remarkably solid ensemble that's already mostly clicking really well with one another.

The bigger issue is that the show feels a bit like it's forcing the characters to stay together just because we wouldn't have a show otherwise.
Tell-Tale TV
Emma Leigh
The pilot isn't the worst that's graced television screens across America. There's plenty of action and laughs, but considering that it's another DC spin-off, one would think they would be able to drudge up a little more creativity.

There's a lot of possibilities for a series like this, and I'm interested to see the choices made moving forward.

I liked Arthur Darvill. I think he did a good job as Rip Hunter. However, making Rip Hunter basically Doctor Who was an odd choice.

Legends of Tomorrow is the most comic book TV show we've ever seen.
Collider

At the end of the day though, kudos to the CW for creating a show that is able to nail its lofty goals, and create a series that never takes itself too seriously, all while managing to just be pure fun throughout its runtime.

This is a promising start.

I'm curious to see whether we'll be seeing character- or pair-centric episodes in the future; for now, to me, this proves a shaky start, even if the cast looks like they're having fun.

Despite needing to craft an introduction out of a whole bunch of plates that were already spinning, the Legends of Tomorrow pilot feels like a breath, or rather a gust of fresh air, packing in a whole bunch of fun.

I'm still not sold on Vandal Savage as a big bad every week for, what, ever? It seems he'll grow old after a while.
ScreenCrush

It's also entirely possible that future episodes of the series take the matter more seriously... Still, what the hell were they thinking, to bake such an insane decision into the series' very first hour?
Screen Rant
Alice Walker
In the end this pilot is the means to an end, introducing our leads and setting the stage for the action and adventure to follow. The seeds planted in this episode are promising, and the small flaws don't outweigh the shows many good qualities.

On the whole, this episode had mixture of highs and lows...and the lows were shockingly bad. This show's creative team should know by now exactly how to make these superheroes seem like relatable people.
IGN Movies

Legends of Tomorrow isn't exactly flawless right out of the gate, but there's more than enough in this first episode to hook fans of The Flash and Arrow, or just anyone who craves a good Doctor Who/superhero mash-up.
AV Club
Gwen Ihnat
Unfortunately, piling so many costumed characters into one series has the unfortunate effect of diluting, rather than empowering, CW's new comic-book show. It's a case of too much being too much.
New York Magazine/Vulture

Why the male angst? We already have enough of that in comic adaptations - particularly the kind that involves dead women and children.
Lyles' Movie Files
Jeffrey Lyles
There's definitely going to be some growing pains, but the lure of watching the characters interact is enough of a hook to warrant further investment.
