Cal Trevor loses his father in an Indian attack, and is taken in by Daniel Boone temporarily along with his lame horse Gideon. When taking Cal to distant family, Cal stumbles into a horse race with an experienced jockey and horse, and Daniel fails to get him out of it because of Cal's determination. Cal and his horse, Gideon, race with heart resembling Black Beauty.
