April 24, 2002 is just another workday in Southern California, until the 300 passenger Metrolink No. 809 collides head on with a Burlington Northern freight line. The impact pushes the commuter train 334 feet backwards down the track. Inside, passengers are tossed like rag dolls. On a highway alongside the tracks, passing motorists skid to a stop and bolt from their cars.
