Sunday, January 1, 1950. The ship Durban Castle enters the bay of Funchal, capital of Madeira. On board is Winston Churchill, former British prime minister, hailed as a hero of the Second World War. Landing is celebrated with fireworks and a crowd that warmly celebrates. Churchill is accompanied by his wife, daughter, two secretaries, a literary assistant, the butler and two bodyguards. It will be installed at Reid's Palace Hotel at the invitation of the owners, the English Blandy family, and the English consul in Madeira, his friend Bryce Nairn. Churchill comes to spend two weeks on vacation on the Island, write his memoirs and paint. The guiding thread of this miniseries will be Churchill's preparation for and visit to Madeira in 1950. Using reenactments, current footage, archives and testimonies, the narrative development of this theme will make it possible to address various aspects of the history of Madeira and Churchill.
