Season 1

Denmark is one of the oldest kingdoms. But who are we really? DR1 sends the two brothers Anders and Peter Lund Madsen back in the history of Denmark to investigate. To make us all wiser on what foundation our present rests on, the two brothers in each episode moves into a new time inhabited by Danes who live in the respective time in the history of Denmark. Here the brothers engage in life and the fellowship that characterized the life of the period.

    JernalderenAnders and Peter Lund Madsen start their time journey in the Iron Age, where they have to experience Danish history for themselves for the first time. Here they learn why you have to take off your trousers to bake bread, why mud was an important raw material and that you need women's spit to make beer. Along the way, they meet the Gallic Iron Age Höding, the Aarhusian booze historian, and the statistician from Novozymes, who takes the whole family on holiday in the Iron Age every year.

    VikingetidenAnders and Peter Lund Madsen travel back to the Viking Age to experience Danish history for themselves. In the Viking Age, the brothers must fight man against man to decide who is the greatest Viking warrior of the two. Peter has been a scout, and therefore believes that he has an advantage because he is better than Anders at handling knives and swords. The brothers offer beer and blood to the old gods before they set off. And they also learn that the Vikings were very style-conscious and that the blue color they used for their beautiful clothes was made from urine.

    MiddelalderenAnders and Peter Lund Madsen travel back to the Middle Ages to experience Danish history for themselves. The brothers must apprentice as knights with Knight Toby, who is a real knight. The first thing they learn about the time period is that there are an incredible number of educators trained in the Middle Ages. Next, they are thrown into tough sword fighting training, but the training in good table manners proves to be even more challenging for the brothers. While Peter goes to church, Anders shoots with a leave-behind rifle so that the ears flap. Finally, the brothers show what they can do on horseback with a lance - if they do well, they are knighted by Knight Toby.

    EnevældenAnders and Peter Lund Madsen travel back to the monarchy to experience Danish history for themselves. In the despotism, the brothers have to live as counts, and it is a bit of a challenge for the brothers to behave as correctly and nicely as the time demands of two High Counts Excellencies. The brothers learn that the nice didn't take a shower, and that autocracy made more sense if you were drunk - for example, when it took four hours to put on make-up, clothes and a wig. Although they have received combat training in both the Viking Age and as knights in the Middle Ages, the brothers recognize that they would not last long in a duel on a sword under the autocracy. Along the way, the brothers learn to almost dance the menu, and they strengthen themselves on delicacies from the time: Venus breasts and stuffed calf's eyes.

    StavnsbåndetAnders and Peter Lund Madsen travel back to the stave band to experience Danish history for themselves. The brothers have to try life as tenant farmers, and in addition to ploughing, the brothers learn that West Jutland men also knit, that there is prestige in shit, and that you can't run around corners with a Jutland peddler. They also find out that schnapps is a good change from beer and that ladies could also be scored through dancing back then.

    GuldalderenAnders and Peter Lund Madsen have traveled out into the country and back in time to experience Denmark's history for themselves. They eat, work, live, fight and party as we once did, to find out what made us the Danes we are today. This week, Brødrene Madsen has been taken back to Denmark's Golden Age at the beginning of the 19th century. They will try out life as students in Kongens Copenhagen and will be accommodated in one of the country's oldest colleges. The Golden Age was a time of big thoughts, bubbling national romance and when Danes were international celebrities. Anders and Peter are exposed to mythological heroes, quackery and mysterious student rituals. And in a port wine intoxication, they must converse with an educated salon hostess at one of the country's finest addresses.

    Den store krigAnders and Peter Lund Madsen have traveled out into the country and back in time to experience Denmark's history for themselves. They eat, work, live, fight and party as we once did, to find out what made us the Danes we are today. This week, the Madsen brothers have been taken back to the time around the First World War. They are called in as artillerymen on the country's most modern fort. A fort to which the whole country gathered of its own free will. Here they learn how to exercise, flood the suburbs and why women have to be over 40 and have given birth to two children to work in the defense. With bellies full of pork and peas, they load the cannons and prepare for a proper bang.

    HippietidenAnders and Peter Lund Madsen have traveled out into the country and back in time to experience Denmark's history for themselves. They eat, work, live, fight and party as we once did, to find out what made us the Danes we are today. Time travel is at the end of the road, and the last stop is the 1970s. A time of breaking up and new breaking up, wrapping batik and micro-macro food. And not least great music. The brothers meet some of the luminaries of the time and remember their own upbringing in the same decade. And then they move in a collective to test each other's tolerance.
