The group has mixed feelings when Charlie asks them to participate in a placebo fake therapy to help Ed avoid serious trouble handling his wife's horrible new friend Ray, an even worse but two-faced bigot. As Martin stays with Charlie, Kate helps him realize Ed reminds him of his lousy father, hence risking his career for the grump. Jennifer insists to platonically date Kate, whom she assumes Lesbian.
