Mel's mother, Carrie Sharples blows into town unexpectedly. She tells Mel she plans on staying at his house for the winter. Mel moves into Alice's house for the duration. Alice doesn't want to get involved but Mel begs her to try to get his mom out of his house. Alice succeeds but now Carrie moves in with Alice.
