The True Stories Behind Game of Thrones
S10 • E47 May 26, 2025 42m
Exciting and amazing events, and a strange and different world created by George R.R. Martin in his A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, which was later adapted into the most famous TV series in history, Game of Thrones. However, many people don't know that many of the events in the series are primarily inspired by real world and history, and actual events that occurred in medieval Europe, such as the Wars of the Roses in England, the Mongol invasion of Eastern Europe, and the Arab attempts to conquer Constantinople during the Umayyad era.
Even the Great Wall, or the Wall in Game of Thrones, is primarily inspired by Hadrian's Wall in the far north of England.
In this episode, we attempt to explore the historical events that directly influenced George R.R. Martin's mind, which he was influenced by, and which he wrote about in A Song of Ice and Fire, or Game of Thrones.
