DI Frost is an old-school, no-nonsense copper who believes in traditional policing methods. Frost uses what he knows about the street to find answers to crimes as a member of Denton's CID. His home life is complex, but his daily nemesis is the station's commander Supt. Mullett, who is constantly worrying. He doesn't appreciate DI Frost's rough-and-ready manner, which doesn't stop him from trotting him out--with his George Cross bestowed upon him.

E2Close EncountersAutistic teenager Laurence Burrell is the only witness to an attack on a security guard at Denton's last remaining quarry and is hauled in by the police, later escaping back to the quarry, which he threatens to blow up. Frost is also kept busy when a woman claims that her ex-partner has abducted their young son, and Mr. Mullet is anxious that he investigate a series of burglaries which are strangely related. - Held In TrustE3
Held In TrustDI Frost pursues a paedophile suspected of abducting a 10-year-old boy from a Denton Town football match. Initially, Frost is unsure whether the lad simply ran away or is genuinely the victim of a kidnapping, but when the boy is found dead and a man is found dead following a hit and run incident, the identity of the latter creates a frightening link to the missing child. When a second child turns up dead in a deserted quarry, Frost is in a desperate race against time to stop a third child being murdered. While Frost is contending with this a note arrives from a secret admirer and Mullet tries to push Frost into a promotion he doesn't want.
