Man what a powerful movie. I don't have a ton to say critically. After reading the book I watched this and felt it did a pretty darn good job of adapting the book which is a tough read. It is pretty depressing and dark. I think it tries to get across the consequences of a certain ideology or thought process. As well as the sadder side of human nature. Powerful book and Powerful movie. Not something I would want to watch again any time soon though. Amazing performances by the actors.1984 - Dune: Part One
Man I love this movie. From the design of the planets, ships, and technology. It such an amazing case of world building brought to life on screen. So many aspects brought together. Also the costumes and makeup work. Can't forget the score. Really really amazing work by everyone involved in this film. Everyone in this movie gave a great performance. The story line is engaging. So many amazing actors in this film. My favorite scene is when Paul has to put his hand in the pain box. That performance he gave kind of blew me away. Dune part 2 wasn't quite as good as the first but still pretty good. Hoping the last movie hits it out of the park. Dune is such a rewatchable film for me it has a solid place on The Movie Wall.Dune: Part One - Hocus Pocus
As a younger me this was one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween. When I watched it again last year for the first time in a long time it brought back so many good memories. It has just the right amount of whimsy and spooky fun. The costumes and set design is really well done too. I could watch this every year around Halloween to this day. Definitely has a spot on The Movie Wall.Hocus Pocus - Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
This movie was a great start to the last 3 episodes. Unfortunately it was downhill from here. Spoiler alert. I very much enjoyed this movie. The world they created is amazing. It feels real and immersive. I love all the new creatures and robots. A few things just set them in the wrong direction. Mainly Rey's character arc. I couldn't get on board with it. She's some loner who lives on Jakku by herself and is managing to survive scrapping parts but she looks like she works at Starbucks and constantly slathers herself with sunscreen. Where's the tan?!! She lives in the desert! How is she not filthy. She must have really good hygiene. And throughout the movie she act like a genius and an amazing pilot. I mean come on. You can't be everything. It makes you kind of shake your head. She always knows what buttons to push and when she actually does mess up there are usually zero consequences. I thought it was weird too that she didn't want to leave the planet. Heaven forbid your gone from there for 20 minutes. You think your parents are gonna show up and just see your not there and say O well we tried byyeeee. I mean don't they have a bulletin board or something? Leave a sticky note on your hut..."be back in 20". I digress. I like Daisy Ridley and think she did a good job with what she was given. Finn is a cool character in this movie. I think he was underutilized as the movies continue on. His banter with Poe is hilarious which brings that classic Star Wars humor back a bit. Kylo is pretty damn cool as well. Lots of great action sequences especially anything to do with flying. The hand to hand combat was pretty poor just a lot of barbaric wild swinging of light sabers or electrically type weapons. Not a fan. This is supposed to be way in the future and Jedi's are still at this level of swordplay...come on. I get that Rey is some super force manipulator but so was Kylo. He was also really powerful. And he's actually trained, but somehow she just owns him after maybe 2 minutes with the force. It doesn't make a lot of sense. The propped up Kylo to be this beast and then he just gets owned. It would have been so much more powerful if they kept that going. Made him scary and someone to be feared. Instead we got him getting his ass beat by a newbie with abandonment issues. Enough said though. I was entertained. It has to be on The Movie Wall because its part of Star Wars royalty.Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - Motor City
It is unique. I can't recall any movies I've seen that don't have any dialogue in almost the entire movie. I personally don't like it. You can figure out easily what is going on in the movie though. I would be interested to hear what the actors really thought of this. When you don't have to talk it hides anyone that may not have the chops. Not naming any names. The action scenes are well done. I thought the fight choreography was really good too; as well as the cinematography. While I don't think I'll ever watch this again, you may find yourself entertained if you like revenge action movies. I like the cast especially Pablo Schreiber. Ever since American Gods I've been a fan of his work.Motor City - Mutiny
Jason Statham stars in another shoot em up action movie where bullets don't go through bodies or cars or wooden doors. It is what it is and if you don't set your expectations too high you might have a good time. Jason stars as Cole Reed a bodyguard for a father and son who own a shipping company. Human trafficking is involved and things go sideways quickly. Vengeance ensues. He has a female sidekick who clearly doesn't know Human Trafficking even when it's smell kicks her in the face. And at one point she takes Cole down to her private quarters to FFFFFUUUUUUind out how she can get back to her daughter. The acting is stiff. The part that gets me the most is the realism with the action and gunfights. I think realistic gun ballistics and fighting could have made this flick way better. You can't just hide behind bodies when someone is going full auto at you with a rifle. Nor can you walk out of a car after 10 men dump their mags into it. I digress, if you like Jason Statham give this a shot. It has what I like to call that creepy corner vibe. There is a lot of creeping around and a lot of looking around corners (like a lot). Jason knows what he is good at and has been sticking to this recipe of success. How long with this last who knows. I honestly think he should do more animal movies because I loved The Meg! More sharks please! Rewatchablility is low. This is not going on The Movie Wall sadly.Mutiny - Onward
This movie should be way more popular than it is. Unfortunately this came out right before covid shutdowns and it slipped under the radar. So bummed because this movie should have all the love, Disney parks, and rides based off of it. I can just picture it now. An epic Disney ride based off of this movie's big quest! It tells a heartwarming story. The artistic direction and environmental design is wonderful. Everything has this medieval magical design to it. The attention to detail is amazing. The voice cast is awesome. You have Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Such a shame. I rewatch this regularly and it has a concrete place on The Movie Wall.Onward - Slow Horses
Slow Horses is amazing. Adapted from a series of novels written by Mick Herron (which I haven't read). I love the show. It's got great action and a lot of dark dry humor I like. It is one of the few shows that I have consistently looked forward to the next season coming out. I have yet to be disappointed. Gary Oldman plays Jackson Lamb the leader of a ragtag group of misfits that I guess you could call the black sheep of MI5 agents. The rest of the cast is darn good too. I've watched this multiple times now and I would have to say it's got a solid spot on The Movie Wall.Slow Horses - Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
I finally got around to watching this movie and it was disappointing. I decided to give it a 60% because I really liked a lot of the CGI and puppetry/animatronics. Grogu and the Azellans were awesome. I wish the whole movie would have revolved around them. Throw out the whole plot about the Hutts. The 60% is really for a huge number of creatives that I'm sure played a big part in trying to make this movie great. The script and plot direction just wasn't going to make that happen. I understand this is supposed to be a fun Star Wars movie and some of it really was fun. Most of it was generic bland action or drama that didn't grab me and make me feel anything. I couldn't get invested in Rotta or his story. The whole setup felt more like the tv show and not the decent 1st season of Mando but the not so great seasons. The whole deck of cards of bad guys was so odd to me. Who does that? Sure lets take the time to print all these bad guys out into a nice easy to carry around deck of cards. I don't know. It felt like a watered down version of Star Wars. I want Star Wars to be like Andor! Is that too much to ask. Just make a movie like Andor and balance it out with cute and cuddly Grogu and Azellans. It's really frustrating when you have all this Star Wars content that feels so disjointed. I wont be watching this again and this wont have a spot on The Movie Wall. I thought this was quite cool. Quite cool indeed. This is a relatively short documentary. Although short, its packed with a lot of neat video of the park, the rides, the films, the creators, and more. The viewpoints of the creators was awesome to hear. Some real legends too. Star Wars, Avatar, Zootopia, Moana, Frozen, and Toy Story to name a few. As a creative I find it comforting to hear from some of the people that made it to work on these big movies and IPs. While it takes a lot of hard work, its also apparent it takes a lot of luck. Being in the right place, the right upbringing, having people around you to nudge you in the right direction. I consider many of these people the 1% of creatives that made it to the top. While we may not all make it to this level, we can all enjoy the stories, and enjoy creating our own stories to share with our own audience however big or small.Disney Worldbuilders - Lanterns
Not off to a banging start. Or is it? We start off the pilot with a bit of an origin story for the new trainee of Hal Jordon. Yea this show is going to be about Hal Jordan's trainee John. Who is possibly going to take over as Green Lantern? I didn't think it worked that way but ok. I thought the ring chooses? This pilot episode was a little slow going as far as plot. There is a decent amount of action so I'm going to hold out some hope and see where this goes. So far we have a trainee, some kind of country militia, aliens, and a Green Lantern who looks a bit homeless most of the time. Best part of this episode was trainee John banging a bar chick in the parking lot! ahahah. Go DC! Overall not a horrible episode, but not great. I'm interested enough to see where the next few episodes takes us.Lanterns - Reacher
Misses the mark. Coming from someone who hasn't read the books. Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher looks good on paper. He has the looks and is very beastly. Where he lacks is presence. His whole personality comes off forced most of the time. I think Jack Reacher is a really hard character to play though so I give Alan a lot of props and am glad the show has been well received. I think Alan is early in his career and hopefully will continue to improve as an actor. I wouldn't want him to get stuck in the genre of big bulky muscle guy though. The show itself doesn't really grab me. I watched the first seasons because I had nothing else to watch. If you asked me what those seasons were about I really couldn't tell you. Not very memorable. Now if you asked me about the Tom Cruise version of Jack Reacher I could tell you in detail the plot of that movie. Cruise is a seasoned actor though and its not quite fair to compare. I tried watching the current season which would be season 4 and I don't think I am going to continue it. I was hoping this new season would be better but it's not. Reacher has the same very dry almost condescending tone. Non emotional. Almost sociopathic way of communicating with people. It doesn't work for me. The fight scenes are not great either. The pulling of punches is so obvious. Villains stalling and just waiting to be hit because big bulky Jack can't get up of the ground in less than 5 seconds. At least it's on Prime. Rewatchability is zero for this show.Reacher - Lioness • Season 1
I'm about 6 episodes into the first season and am enjoying this show very much. It definitely has that girl boss quality to it which I don't mind at all. Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman are the highlights for me. They seem to act really well together. The plot so far has me hooked. It's nothing crazy at all. Some terrorist money tracking vibes with some cool spy thriller action mixed in. All while trying to inject some more feminine badass energy into it. It's fine. Only a few things have bugged me so far. When it comes to females being put in these roles where they are supposed to be super badass and tough. You kind of have to ignore some glaring discrepancies. Especially with the main spy character Cruz Manuelos. In the beginning during testing she supposedly busts out 15 body weight pull ups like its nothing. When she so obviously has nowhere near the physique to accomplish this exercise. Whenever she runs it looks like its her first time running lol. Some of the spy craft seems super unrealistic as well. Cruz works her way into friendship with her mark by basically just being a human and in close proximity. The mark basically invites her into her life immediately and with so qualms. She acts sketchy constantly and does sketchy stuff yet the Marks giant security team is like yea she cool nothing suspicious going on at all ahahah. Minus this stuff the show is entertaining and a fun watch. I'm excited to see how the next couple seasons go because I take that as a good sign there is more goodness to come. Rewatchability is almost 0 on this so I don't think it will have a spot on The Movie Wall.Lioness • Season 1
