The Martian is an incredible Sci-Fi film with a great story. Positives: - The premise is intriguing - Visually speaking this movie looks incredible - The entire story is where I think this movie shines best because the story is pretty simple but it’s executed to perfection - Matt Damon possibly delivers his best performance of his career - The rest of the cast does a great job as well - The main character is funny, charming, and very likeable - The side characters are also very likeable and will do whatever it takes to bring Wattley home - Surprisingly this movie is actually really funny - The emotional moments hit - The soundtrack is a bop Overall The Martian is a masterpiece from beginning to end and I definitely recommend it to all Sci-Fi fans.

A brilliantly paced and emotional movie and has one of the best Matt Damon performances I’ve seen. I just wish it spent a little more time exploring how physically, mentally and emotionally fucked Mark would be after everything he goes through.

They stayed true to Andy Weir’s book and nailed the adaptation. Matt Damon’s great, the story’s clever. And it might not be 100% realistic, but who cares. If you ask me its a top-notch sci-fi survival film.

I absolutely love this movie. I've seen it multiple times. Is it realistic? I think so. Is it accurate? Probably not but I don't care I still liked it.

I love this movie. This is another one of my comfort movies. Watched it countless times. I think this movie is actually what got me into Andy Weir. After I watched this movie I read the book and also loved it. His writing is inspiring. Such smooth storytelling. The cast is full of wonderful actors that really bring a lot to the movie. Re-watchability is obviously super high for me. If I could go back and see this in the theaters I would in a second. The only thing that could have made this better is if he too ended up with an alien buddy.

A good strong movie about survival and mental fortitude. Matt Damon does a nice job as "Captain Blond Beard" and I am sure he would agree, he would be a better pirate then spaceman. The story keeps you engaged and rooting for a mission that will never happen in our lifetime, if it does I'll comeback to this review and apologize to everyone who read it. In the end this is an excellent movie and a must watch for those who like spaceman movies.

The Martian is an exceptionally entertaining and scientifically grounded sci-fi film that easily stands out as one of the finest entries in Matt Damon’s filmography. Damon delivers a career-defining, highly charismatic performance, effortlessly carrying the film's emotional and comedic weight. Additionally, the visual depiction of Mars is spectacular; the desolate, rust-colored landscapes are rendered with incredible realism and scale, making the Red Planet feel like a formidable character of its own.

Had to watch this again after watching Project Hail Mary. Very similar themes, and an overall positive view on mankind and what we are capable of in the most impossible situations. Highly entertaining, absurdly inspirational and a much needed watch for jaded folks like myself.

Let's Talk Sci-Fi: The Absolute Best Science Fiction Films of All Time (My Personal Top Tier) 🚀✨

I’ve been going down a massive sci-fi rabbit hole lately, and it got me thinking about just how incredibly diverse, mind-bending, and visually stunning this genre can be. Whether it’s hard science survival, existential dread in deep space, or mind-boggling concepts of time and gravity, nothing captures the imagination quite like a brilliantly executed sci-fi flick. I wanted to share my personal "gold standard" list of sci-fi films the ones I can watch over and over again and hear what your absolute favorites are! Here are the heavy hitters that, in my book, represent the peak of the genre: 1. Interstellar (2014) This isn’t just a movie; it’s an emotional and cinematic journey. Christopher Nolan absolutely nailed the balance between grand, high-concept physics (time dilation, black holes, wormholes) and a deeply grounded, heartbreaking father-daughter story. Every single frame is gorgeous, and Hans Zimmer’s organ-heavy score still gives me goosebumps. 2. The Martian (2015) The ultimate feel-good survival film. It’s easily one of Matt Damon’s best performances—he brings so much charm, humor, and intelligence to Mark Watney. It makes "science-ing the shit" out of a terrible situation look incredibly cool. Visually, their recreation of Mars is stunning, and the pacing is so tight that the two-and-a-half hours fly by. 3. Gravity (2013) One of the most intense, claustrophobic, and visually groundbreaking cinematic achievements ever. Alfonso Cuarón managed to make the vacuum of space feel like an active, terrifying predator. The long, unbroken shots and the sheer anxiety of being cut loose in orbit make this an absolute masterclass in tension. 4. Prometheus (2012) I know this one can split the room, but the sheer ambition, philosophical questions, and pristine aesthetic of Prometheus make it a masterpiece in my eyes. Ridley Scott's exploration of our creators, wrapped in that dark, atmospheric, dread-inducing space-horror vibe, is just incredible to watch. The production design is flawless. 5. Ad Astra (2019) This one is criminally underrated. It’s less of a flashy action movie and more of an intimate, melancholic, and deeply atmospheric character study set against the backdrop of a lonely solar system. Brad Pitt's quiet, reflective performance and the stunning, realistic depiction of space travel make it a hauntingly beautiful watch. Over to you guys: What does your personal Sci-Fi Mount Rushmore look like? Are you into the scientifically grounded survival stories like The Martian, or do you prefer mind-bending psychological space odysseys? Drop your top picks below and let's discuss!

    Alternate story line

I think this movie would be more relatable if it was about growing weed on mars, not potatoes.
