Kevin Andrew Smith
Kevin Andrew Smith (born 17 September 1969) is an American visual effects supervisor at Wētā FX. Born in in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, Smith began his career in visual effects in technical and artistic roles that emphasized lighting, rendering, and look development.
As a visual effects supervisor, Smith has worked on a wide range of major studio films. His credits include The BFG (2016), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Mortal Engines (2018), Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). He also contributed to effects supervision on Krampus (2015) and Fantastic Four (2015).
In addition to feature films, Smith has supervised visual effects for episodic television, including Mr. Corman (2021) and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023–2024).
Smith's work has earned multiple industry award recognitions. For Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), he shared the 2022 Saturn Award for Best Special Effects from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA. He received nominations from the Satellite Awards, Visual Effects Society Awards, and Minnesota Film Critics Alliance. He was also nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Visual Effects for The BFG (2016). His later work on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) received a nomination from the Indiana Film Journalists Association for Best Special Effects.
