Wicked Little Letters Ratings & Reviews
- Desmond DaleJanuary 24, 2025First and foremost I must applaud the uproariously funny banter in the film. It has a flow that conjures fond memories of The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Odd Couple but with a bit more raunch and filth. I found the narrative direction to be quite fresh especially given the pedantic potential of the subject matter. It has its share of lull but as soon as the two leads are on the screen everything goes nuclear. They're hot electric on screen together. They're playing toxic jazz and the sound is stellar. The film flirts with a downtempo denoument but crescendos one last time at the end almost as a naughty subtle fuck you to the naysayers.
- cultfilmlikerJuly 11, 2025Girl, so confusing I love a good film about women cursing!
- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025Olivia Colman plus Jessie Buckley w/ her Irish accent. Pretty much all I needed. 🤩🤩 Social media imposters, sh🤩-posters, and trolls have really been around forever. Loved this, mostly for the cast. It’s a fun little film about some vulgar, harassing letters that become publicized igniting a small scandal in the small town of Littlehampton. The letter generally seem to be targeted at Olivia Colman’s, Edith Swan, though they begin to expand to other members of the community. The obvious suspect is the potty mouthed, Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley), who moved in next door after emigrating from Ireland after her husband died. The twists and turns in the mystery likely won’t fool anyone, but the characters are such a joy to hang out with that it’s a engaging simply watching the story unfold. Obviously, I love Colman and Buckley, but I really enjoyed Anjana Vasan as “Woman Police Officer” (official title) Gladys Moss. Her character highlights the underlying thematics surrounding women’s rights. The film also brushes on elements like the Christian patriarchy, women’s suffrage, and gender biases in the legal system without being heavy-handed. Highly recommend.

The film's witty script, charming visuals, and irresistible period charm make it a pure joy to watch. "Wicked Little Letters" is a breath of fresh air, proving that sometimes the best medicine is a good old-fashioned laugh. Don't miss this gem of a film—it's the perfect antidote to the mundane!
