Ladd is a guy that’s an acquired taste. In Shane and even This Gun for Hire I found him kind of bland but now I get his quiet presence. This one has a love triangle between Ladd, Ladd’s friend (Robert Preston also in This Gun for Hire), and his wife. Honestly it’s pretty clear that they both love Ladd and he has no romantic interest in either. The last Ladd western I watched called Branded and this one are just great-looking sturdy western noirs worth digging up.
