Where to Watch We Bury the Dead
- eyeofthetornadoFebruary 8, 2026We Bury the Dead understands something most zombie movies are too busy running from: the undead aren’t the point. What’s dead is. This is a zombie film built on the quiet grief of relationships we refuse to properly mourn. The monsters arrive not as a shock, but as a consequence what happens when loss is ignored, postponed, or politely looked away from. These zombies feel less like invaders and more like reminders, walking proof that what you don’t bury follows you. At its core, the film is a dramatic romance about healing after emotional death. Love here isn’t heroic or loud; it’s fragile, hesitant, and bruised by avoidance. The characters don’t fight the apocalypse so much as they negotiate with their own denial. Closing your eyes doesn’t stop the decay it just gives it time to rot. There’s a tenderness in how the film treats survival. Healing isn’t presented as victory, but as an act of courage: choosing to look directly at what’s already gone and finally saying goodbye. The romance grows not from hope, but from honesty two people learning that connection requires acknowledging the endings that shaped them. We Bury the Dead is less about killing zombies and more about laying the past to rest. It’s a reminder that ungrieved love lingers, and that sometimes the only way forward is to dig, face what you’ve lost, and bury it with care.
- Brendan StevensMay 7, 2026Mediocre 4.5/10 Zombie movie. The movie starts off fine, with a reasonable premise. Well, as believable as "the dead are rising" can ever be. Weapon experiment gone wrong, etc. Like most zombie movies, it intentionally leaves out why the dead are rising. It just waves it's hands and says, "Look, this is happening, now on with the plot", which is fine. The first zombie interaction was genuinely unnerving, speaking as a person who consumes a decent amount of zombie media. Mostly because these aren't your regular, Romero zombies. There's some degree of humanity or precognition left within them. Almost like like an after image silhouette of their consciousness. They aren't following the normal "walk slowly and moan" formula Romero created. Think more like Land of the Dead this time. A bit of intelligence. But as the movie goes on, I lost interest, because it fell into one of the classic, overplayed tropes of horror movies, "The real monsters were the humans all along". I'm okay with a slow burn movie. I don't need a Zack Snyder Dawn of the Dead. Action isn't itself good film. But this movie was slow AND there really wasn't any sort of pay off. It was just a bunch of things happening, most of which was random, with no overarching story, with a loose plot that the main character, played by Daisy Ridley, was trying to find her husband. It was just sort of forgettable. Not bad. Not good. But I'll never think of this movie again.
- DarkknightjaMay 2, 2026As a fan of the Zombie genre it is not a typical walk fast for your life kind of movie. It is an attempt at an interesting perspective. No spoiler alerts but this concept has great potential and authenticity to story but definitely could have been much better in many ways. That said it was only 90mins.
- HollowOutMarch 7, 2026Snooze-fest. This movie could have been such a neat twist on a normal zombie movie. Instead, it tries to take you for a ride on the feels-train, but falls short. Also, Daisy Ridley's American accent is atrocious. Might be worth it to watch it just for that. Save yourself a watch and let me carry that burden for you.
