- denik3July 30, 2026An excellent film, directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, (of Wicked City and Ninja Scroll Fame). Adapted from the third novel in Hideyuki Kikuchi's series, Demon Death Chase. It leaves some of the more distasteful things out of the novel but is still a solid adaption, and stuns with rich, sakuga filled animation. I truly wish Vampire Hunter D would get the recognition it deserves. A series would do better than movies in my opinion, but this is still a worthy watch.

Even though I haven't seen the original and went into this knowing it's a sequel, I was completely blown away. The film is set in the year 12,090 AD, presenting a post-nuclear apocalyptic world that brilliantly blends classic and futuristic elements like high tech weapons sitting alongside old school pubs. Visually, this anime is absolutely stunning; every single frame is a work of art with a gorgeous, dark gothic atmosphere and incredible action sequences. The story revolves around a dhampir a half human, half vampire bounty hunter named 'D.' There is a unique joy in watching classic anime like this; everything feels authentic and real, unlike modern films where you are constantly wondering what was ruined by CGI or AI generation.
