- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025Finally caught up with this one. I’m a big fan of Soderbergh’s approach to filmmaking and cinematography. He’s not precious about form or format and I love that he’s kept that sort of indie spirit of calling up some buddies to just go someplace and make a movie. And this is a really solid contained thriller that really nails the paranoia of being involuntarily committed to a mental institution. That said, while the film doesn’t look terrible (I’m not docking any stars), the iPhone cinematography certainly doesn’t look very good, either.
- RyezooFebruary 14, 2025Man I heard Claire Foy is great on the crown, but getting to see her in this is super impressive. Her performance is so believable and draws the audience in. This movie takes dark turns that kept on raising the stakes all the way to the end. The guy is very good at being creepy but not as good as Mark Duplass in Creep. Now, I really enjoy Steven Sodenbergs work and love how he’s always pushing the envelope and trying new things, but I don’t know if I can totally embrace filming these movies on iPhones. The movie just looked so muddy and some scenes were so hot and over exposed it really took me out of it. I did get use to it after the 20 min mark but I kept thinking how much better this would be if filmed normally. Maybe I’ll enjoy the iPhone usage more on second viewing. This is still a really good film and i won’t let that distract me from that!
