- Darren WebsterJanuary 13, 2026I went into this expecting something really cheesy, possibly over done with terrible special effects and sub par acting. And, mostly I was right. It's ridiculously cheesy. The special effects are straight out of an early 2000's SyFu Friday night movie. The acting was pretty damn good, if not over the top. But you know what? It was an absolue blast beginning to end. All I can say is I wish I had an Apple for my best friend. See you out there Turbo Kid!
- Justin LutzDecember 23, 2025Turbo Kid is an absolute blast from start to finish—an over-the-top, heart-filled, chainsaw-wielding celebration of everything that made ’80s genre movies unforgettable. From its pixelated opening moments to its gloriously absurd finale, this film knows exactly what it is and fully commits. The world-building is surprisingly rich for such a lean film, blending Mad Max–style post-apocalypse with BMX bikes, comic-book hero worship, and gallons of gleefully excessive gore. The practical effects are insane in the best way—creative, disgusting, and hilarious—clearly made by people who love the craft and aren’t afraid to push it to cartoonish extremes. What really elevates Turbo Kid is its heart. Beneath the blood and synths is a genuine coming-of-age story about heroism, friendship, and choosing to do the right thing even when the world is broken. The performances are perfectly tuned to the tone, with charm, sincerity, and just the right amount of unhinged villainy. Add in a killer synthwave soundtrack that slaps from beginning to end, and you’ve got a cult classic that earns every bit of its status. If you love retro aesthetics, practical effects, dark humor, or movies that are made with pure passion and zero cynicism, Turbo Kid is not just recommended—it’s mandatory viewing. 🚲⚡🩸
