- ZokkiieAugust 27, 2026There's a reason this became such a classic. The flying scenes are still awesome, Tom Cruise is great as Maverick, and the whole thing just screams 80s. The soundtrack is obviously a big part of it too, and there are plenty of scenes that are still instantly recognizable. The story is pretty basic, and some of the romance and dialogue are definitely cheesy, but I don't really mind it here. The cast is fun, the action delivers, and it's just an easy movie to sit down and enjoy. Still holds up pretty well.

- Charles LondonApril 7, 2025I first saw this movie when it was released to theaters in 1986. The flight sequences were electrifying and spectacular. It felt like you were up in the air flying with the planes. The scenes in between however, were a lot less spectacular, especially the Hollywood love-story which felt contrived and unbelievable. I would liken the experience to visiting a theme park on a crowded day. Going on the big rides is thrilling, but the waiting lines in between, not so much. All in all though, it's a fun time. Streaming the movie today on a home screen doesn't quite recreate the theater experience. The soundtrack is still just as impressive and the flight sequences still look prertty darn good, but they loose half a star on a smaller screen. As for the rest of the film... well, it still is what it is, a queue between thrill rides.

Watched this with our kids for the first time since they’re looking forward to Top Gun: Maverick. Loaded with classic one-liners, iconic scenes, and a seminal soundtrack, it’s hard not to give this high marks even if some of the elements don’t hold up as well as others. 4.5 stars easy.

This is by far the best out of the 2 movies, and we get to see Val Kilmer shine bright. I cant even count how many times I have watched this and will continue to watch it over and over.
