Tom and Jerry: The Movie Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel FrangisMarch 25, 2025I just watched Tom and Jerry: The Movie and I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. I grew up watching Tom and Jerry, so I was honestly a little nervous going into this one. But I am happy to say they actually pulled it off. It is fun, loud, silly, and full of that classic chaos you expect from these two. Tom and Jerry are still the stars of the show, even with all the new human characters and a modern setting. The movie sticks with the classic formula. Tom is still chasing Jerry, Jerry is still outsmarting Tom, and it leads to one wild situation after another. The animation style is really cool too. They are animated in 2D style but placed into a live action world, and it somehow works perfectly. The physical comedy is spot on. All the slapstick, all the crazy fights, the over the top reactions—it is all there. It feels like they took the best parts of the old cartoons and just threw them into a new setting. They do not talk, which I really liked, because it keeps them true to the originals. They let the animation and music do all the talking. Chloë Grace Moretz plays Kayla, one of the main human characters, and she actually does a great job. Her character is involved in a hotel where Tom and Jerry end up causing a bunch of trouble. The story is simple but it works as a way to bring all the characters together. She is fun to watch and keeps the story moving between the cartoon chaos. The movie takes place mostly inside a big fancy hotel, which makes for a great setting. It gives Tom and Jerry plenty of space to run around, wreck everything, and just go wild. There are also lots of other animated animals in the mix, and it makes the world feel more alive and cartoony. The humor is aimed at all ages. There are plenty of jokes for younger viewers, but also a lot of moments that older fans will catch and appreciate. The energy is high from the start and it does not really slow down. There is always something happening, whether it is a huge chase or some ridiculous plan going wrong. The visual effects are pretty cool too. Blending animation and live action can be tricky, but the movie pulls it off really well. The animated characters fit into the real world without looking out of place, and the interactions between humans and cartoons feel natural. The reason I give it 4.5 instead of a full 5 is because some of the human storylines feel a little flat. They are not bad, but I was way more interested in what Tom and Jerry were up to than the wedding drama happening in the background. Still, it never gets boring and the movie keeps the focus where it should be most of the time. Overall Tom and Jerry: The Movie is a great modern take on one of the most iconic cartoon duos ever. It stays true to what made the originals fun while adding just enough new elements to keep it fresh. I had a blast watching it and I think any Tom and Jerry fan will too. Definitely worth checking out if you just want something fun and full of cartoon chaos.
