Suzanne Stone (Kidman) knows exactly what she wants. She wants to be a television newscaster and she is willing to do anything to get what she wants. What she lacks in intelligence, she makes up for in cold determination and diabolical wiles. As she pursues her goal with relentless focus, she is forced to destroy anything and anyone that may stand in her way, regardless of the ultimate cost or means necessary.

Nicole Kidman is so radiant, so discusingly alluring that you can almost understand how she basically enslaved a teenager student to do her bidding...It doesn't even seem so preposterous that her character set off a wave of lust to virtually everyone she encountered like a maxxed out AOE character in a role-playing game. The narrative is largely told through a series of interviews conducted in the aftermath of the murder with all of the people she affected, which is useful for painting a more full picture of the protagonist. We get to hear perspectives from a myriad of people she affected and what becomes increasingly amusing is how unified they all are when it comes to describing her almost psychotic ambition to be famous. It's a tale that's not too unlike classics like All About Eve or Sunset Boulevard but has a narrative style that seems almost proto-True Crime-documentaries. And Joaquin Phoenix's commitment to playing his character is the cherry on top that really cements how much I loved this film.
