Those Who Wish Me Dead Ratings & Reviews
- justlarissa33April 2, 2025Taylor Sheridan's typically blazing direction fizzled slightly with "Those Who Wish Me Dead", a suspenseful thriller that still grips – just not as tightly as his other works ("Wind River" and "Hell or High Water" remain favorites). Angelina Jolie stars as Hannah Faber, a smokejumper haunted by a tragic past, who finds herself protecting Connor (Finn Little), a young witness to a murder. Their cat-and-mouse game against assassins Patrick and Jack Blackwell (Nicholas Hoult and Aiden Gillen) ignites: * Intense forest fire sequences – visually stunning and terrifying * Jolie's character development – her pain and guilt feel palpable * Little's portrayal of Connor – his fear and resilience are believable However, unlike Sheridan's other films, this one lacks: * Depth in supporting characters – the assassins feel somewhat one-dimensional * Tighter plotting – some twists feel convenient or predictable * Emotional resonance beyond Hannah's backstory – the story doesn't quite simmer beneath the surface While "Those Who Wish Me Dead" remains an engaging thriller, it falls short of Sheridan's usual mastery.
