Thoroughbreds Ratings & Reviews
- Splitvision89September 15, 2025A little underwhelming, a bit far-fetched, but still compelling. Was still an enjoyable movie and both Olivia Cooke and Anna Taylor Joy put on a good show
- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025Damn, I put this one off for too long. Really loved it. Beautifully shot. Love the long takes where the camera just lingers. Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy back and forth interactions are exquisite, neither one fully trusting the other. Didn’t realize Anton Yelchin was in this. 😢 Miss seeing him. Definitely one I’ll be revisiting.
- Steve GardenApril 29, 2025Well-made and performed, and the critical dig at empathy-free privilege is clear, as were the faint Haneke echoes, but frankly, it's a bit toothless.
- HakihikoFebruary 25, 2025A Darkly Stylish and Unsettling Experience "Thoroughbreds" is a sharp, stylish, and unsettling psychological thriller-comedy that masterfully blends dark humor with chilling tension. The film thrives on its eerie atmosphere, minimalistic yet striking cinematography, and an unpredictable narrative that keeps viewers on edge. A major highlight of the film is the exceptional performances by Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke, who bring an unsettling yet mesmerizing energy to their roles. Taylor-Joy portrays Lily with a carefully restrained intensity, perfectly capturing the inner conflict of a privileged young woman whose carefully curated world begins to unravel. Cooke, on the other hand, is hypnotic as Amanda, delivering a deadpan, emotionally detached performance that is both chilling and oddly endearing. Their contrasting acting styles create an electrifying dynamic, with every interaction between them laced with tension, manipulation, and a quiet sense of danger. Their chemistry is undeniable, making their relationship the unsettling heart of the film. Anton Yelchin also delivers a strong supporting performance, adding layers to the twisted dynamic between the two leads. While the film's slow-burn pacing might not be for everyone, it works in its favor, allowing the unsettling tone to build organically. The sharp, deadpan dialogue and precise direction make for a hypnotic experience, leaving a lasting impact even after the credits roll. Overall, "Thoroughbreds" is an intelligent and haunting thriller that stands out with its unique storytelling, stellar performances, and sharp execution. It's a film that lingers in the mind, offering a chilling yet captivating experience.
