Where to Watch They Drive by Night
- NickCallanApril 3, 2026Decent thriller but with a few elements that have dated poorly. The pinball dings ling dialogue being one. Just too 'clever' and distracting in 2026. There was one good one though. When offered water, Alan Hale says "I said I'm thirsty, not dirty". His character was another element that dated poorly. Not funny, pretyt irritating. Ida Lupino, on the other hand, was great. It's pretty interesting to see a yarn based on blue collar truckers. But tbh, it takes off when it transitions into a crime thriller. This exact moment occurs when Lupino stares down the lens, and it's a great mount. Feels like it shouldn't work, but it really does. It never becomes more than a solid yarn, solidly told.
