A small village in Brandenburg. Anne lives here - lonely and bitter, with metre-high protective walls around her heart. Her husband is long dead, she is at odds with the village, and she hasn't heard from her daughter Julia for years. Then one day her eight-year-old granddaughter Tilda turns up on her doorstep. She needs a new home because her mother is in prison. Anne reluctantly takes in her granddaughter, determined to get rid of her at the first opportunity.
