The Wedding Banquet
Directed by Andrew AhnWhere to Watch The Wedding Banquet
- kchen5June 8, 2025I think the trailer made the movie seem way more comedic but it is really about touching relationships and confronting some generational issues. I also just found out that this was a you make of the 1993 film and will have to watch that to compare and contrast. Definitely enjoyed the film and the 4 characters are all very likeable.
- Kevin WardNovember 4, 2025I haven’t seen the original, but I thought this was cute. Not as emotionally moving as I was expecting. That’s partially due to the fact that I thought it telegraphed it’s major plot turns. Also, I just tend to not buy into relationships that commit and then forgive infidelities so flippantly. Great Seattle representation. Made me want to eat Dicks.
- Megan CruzMarch 18, 2025There is a lot to love in the Wedding Banquet. While it never reaches the highs of some of Ahn’s previous work, the cast is incredibly charming and there is enough heart and humor to keep you entertained throughout. While I wish Lily Gladstone’s character in particular was a little more fleshed out, she as always has incredible screen presence. I was also deeply moved by the complicated relationship between mother and daughter depicted by Kelly Marie Tran and Joan Chen. That kind of complex emotional around generational montherhood is rarely seen on screen and I felt deeply seen and moved. All in all this is a fun romp with a lovable gaggle of characters, just don’t go in expecting a masterpiece like fire island.
