The Tunnel Ratings & Reviews

This is a decent disaster movie. There's less explosions and the like than you see with an American movie, and it's more of a story about bravery and family, which I found quite refreshing. The ending was a little bit of a cliche but that's to be expected. Having to read subtitles distracted from the movie a bit for me, but non-English speakers do that for our movies, so it's fair. All-in-all, a good movie and I really enjoyed it.
Third Coast Review
Lisa Trifone
There's something halfway decent hidden in all the smoke and sentimentality.
Eye for Film
Jennie Kermode
A serviceable thriller if you just want a bit of help to imagine you way into a dangerous situation, The Tunnel is handsomely produced and will entertain you for a while, but you might not want to go all the way through it.
Slant Magazine
Mark Hanson
The film lacks for the methodically escalating stakes that makes the best examples of the genre so entertaining.
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews
Dennis Schwartz
A cliche-laden but well-crafted disaster movie from Norway.
Blu-ray.com
Brian Orndorf
"The Tunnel" isn't chaotic, but it's suspenseful, with Oie carefully escalating the central crisis, paying attention to personal relationships, not visual effects, along the way.
The Newnan Times-Herald
Jonathan W. Hickman
"The Tunnel" is a worthy addition to the small subterranean genre.
25YL (25 Years Later)
Don Shanahan
"The Tunnel" dangles human vulnerability and fortitude in balanced portions.
Film Festival Today
Christopher Llewellyn Reed
All in all, then, it's far from a masterpiece, but it holds our interest.
ReelViews
James Berardinelli
There are times when a less-is-more approach results in gripping entertainment and The Tunnel is one such example.
Austin Chronicle
Richard Whittaker
The Tunnel may be shrouded in blistering embers and fumes, but it never loses sight of the victims and helpers, of whom there are many.
One Guy's Opinion
Frank Swietek
[A] curiously humdrum disaster film about an accident in a mountain highway tunnel that traffics in clichés and coincidences more than excitement.
New York Times
Beatrice Loayza
[A] formulaic, but sufficiently diverting thriller...
Variety
Dennis Harvey
Solidly crafted if a bit uninspired, Pål Øie's thriller is like a horizontal, colder, sootier "Towering Inferno" minus the all-star-cast, though their soap-operatics are intact.
Cinemalogue
Todd Jorgenson
The harrowing accident and its immediate aftermath is visually striking and dramatically gripping, although the lack of emotional depth causes that urgency to dwindle amid a gloomy haze.
Keith & the Movies
Keith Garlington
By highlighting the heroism and keeping things focused on the people rather than the spectacle, "The Tunnel" gives its audience something authentic to latch onto and root for.
Mark Reviews Movies
Mark Dujsik
[The] film is one of ... constantly mounting obstacles and dangers, with just enough of a human story to make us care...
Nightmarish Conjurings
Jessica Scott
The Tunnel starts out strong, sticking to the disaster film formula with style and efficient characterization. It stumbles midway through, however, falling victim to pacing issues and mawkishness that undermine the promise of the first half.
