- Mister ArnAugust 2, 2026What surprised me most about “The Sugarland Express” was Goldie Hawn. I'd always thought of her as playing bubbly, comedic roles, but she gives a genuinely strong dramatic performance here. Spielberg delivers the exciting chase scenes you'd expect, although the pursuit eventually becomes a little too much of a rolling parade to feel believable. Even so, it works. In some ways, it feels like a more serious Smokey and the Bandit, and I think it's the better movie.
