- Manuel FrangisApril 6, 2025I just watched The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is absolutely insane in the best way. It takes everything that makes SpongeBob great and turns it all the way up. It is funny, loud, creative, and completely unpredictable from beginning to end. I had such a fun time watching it, and if you are a fan of SpongeBob, this one definitely delivers. The story starts in Bikini Bottom like you would expect, but it does not stay there for long. Something goes terribly wrong when the Krabby Patty formula disappears, and everything falls into total chaos. SpongeBob teams up with some familiar faces to try to get it back, and their adventure ends up leading them above the surface into the human world. It sounds simple, but the way the story plays out is anything but normal. The movie is packed with wild twists, strange characters, and nonstop surprises. SpongeBob is just as lovable and over the top as always. His optimism and energy are what hold everything together, even when the world around him turns into complete madness. Patrick brings that perfect mix of dumb and hilarious, Squidward is constantly annoyed, Mr. Krabs is all about the money, and Sandy brings some of the best reactions in the movie. Everyone is in top form, and the voice cast is just as strong as ever. The humor is all over the place in the best possible way. There are smart jokes, random visual gags, fourth wall breaks, and just pure nonsense that somehow works. You never really know what the movie is going to throw at you next. One second you are in an apocalyptic Bikini Bottom, the next you are watching a dolphin yell at planets, and somehow it all flows together. That is the kind of SpongeBob energy I love. It is weird, but it knows it is weird and just has fun with it. The animation is super clean and looks great on the big screen. The underwater scenes stick to the classic 2D style that feels like the show, but when the characters come to the surface, they transform into 3D CGI versions of themselves. And it actually works really well. They still move like their cartoon selves, but with this cool, shiny look that pops. It is fun to see them interact with the real world, and the contrast adds even more personality to the movie. Antonio Banderas plays the main villain, and he clearly had a blast with this role. He is completely over the top, silly, and fits perfectly into the SpongeBob universe. The scenes with him are wild and full of pirate madness, and he brings a lot of energy to the movie. I give The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water 5 out of 5 stars because it is a wild, funny, and totally unpredictable ride. It takes the SpongeBob formula and pushes it into new territory while still keeping everything fans love about the show. Overall Sponge Out of Water is a chaotic and hilarious adventure that proves SpongeBob still has what it takes to entertain old fans and new ones alike. It is loud, it is weird, and it is a total blast from start to finish. I had so much fun watching it, and I will definitely be rewatching it again.
