- Manuel FrangisMarch 30, 2025I just watched The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is everything I love about SpongeBob—funny, colorful, weird, and full of heart. It is the kind of movie that makes you laugh out loud one second and feel emotional the next. If you have ever been a fan of the show, this one hits all the right notes. It captures the spirit of SpongeBob perfectly while also doing something new with the animation and story. First off, the animation is amazing. This is the first fully CGI SpongeBob movie, and it looks incredible. The characters still have that same energy and personality, but the visuals are more detailed and polished. The movement is smooth, the colors pop, and the whole thing just looks fun. It is still true to the style of the show, but in a new way that feels fresh. Bikini Bottom looks better than ever, and every scene is packed with detail. The story follows SpongeBob and Patrick as they head out on a big journey to find Gary after he goes missing. That setup is simple, but the adventure that follows is full of surprises, new characters, and a bunch of hilarious moments. You get the classic SpongeBob humor—goofy jokes, silly faces, and wild situations—but there is also a strong message about friendship and loyalty that gives the movie more weight. SpongeBob and Patrick’s friendship is the heart of the movie, and it is awesome to see how much they care about each other. Their scenes together are funny and sweet at the same time. They mess things up a lot, like always, but they never stop trying, and that is what makes them so lovable. The way the movie shows how important Gary is to SpongeBob also adds another emotional layer that longtime fans will appreciate. There are also a ton of great cameos and side characters. Keanu Reeves shows up in a way I never expected, and his scenes are hilarious. There are also some new characters that bring fun energy to the story without taking away from the main cast. The movie balances old and new really well. You get plenty of SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs, but the new faces help keep things interesting. The humor is spot on. It has jokes for younger viewers but also a ton of moments that older fans will get a kick out of. It is self aware in a fun way, and there are a lot of visual gags and random cutaways that feel just like the show. It never tries to be too serious, even when the emotions hit, and that keeps it feeling true to what SpongeBob has always been. The pacing is tight, the music is fun, and the energy never really drops. There is always something happening, whether it is a chase scene, a silly joke, or a moment that tugs at your heart a little. The flashback scenes are also a cool touch and give more backstory to SpongeBob and his time at camp. I give The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run 5 out of 5 stars because it is fun, heartfelt, and beautifully animated. It reminds you why SpongeBob is such a beloved character and delivers a story that fans of all ages can enjoy. Overall Sponge on the Run is a joyful, goofy, and emotional ride that proves SpongeBob still has it after all these years. I loved every second of it
