Where to Watch The Shaft
- cultfilmlikerApril 10, 2026“James was always cool.” Clearly, Shelly didn’t catch this flick Imagine Final Destination, only it makes less sense and is more far-fetched (I wrote this kind of as a joke but boy, how right I was) Never even heard of this but it’s got a conceit that’s been borrowed many times since! Elevators are scary! A cool B-movie! Final Destination 2 has one of the best elevator scenes but I feel like they definitely saw this film when writing it. It has such a Final Destination feel too!! They were just feeding off of each other. Also inspired Devil, I assume Naomi Watts’ character followed a man into the restroom, photographs him, and then falsely accuses him of rape in two minutes. And it’s all played for laughs! Also, I gotta mention that between this and The Ring, she has spent a LOT of runtime working on VHS tapes and showing them to dudes What the hell is with the dissolves / transitions and making the scenes end like they were made for television?? Absolutely atrocious and a dumb hilarious third act. God. Roller skater scene bumped it up a full star. An impressive 3-minute feat Having a Bin Laden line in an NYC film released in May of 2001 is just too damn eerie. Added to The Cinema That Never Sleeps
