A filthy, brutal slog through war, sexual abuse, and gore, with a brothel so disgusting you can practically smell it through the screen. The lead is a total badass and the final confrontation is satisfying, but the plot is predictable, the acting is shaky, and the whole thing often feels more grimy than gripping. Also, if you’re claustrophobic, this movie will feel like a hostage situation.

You’d think even war criminals would have standards in the brothels they choose to frequent. My god that house was disgusting.

This is a fantasticly gruesome movie. Anyone who has heard survivors testemonies about human trafficking victims in the Balkans during the 90s will feel how realistic this movie is in those aspects. It's terrificly horrorfyingly close to what many women went through during that time. I love violent movies. Hell, I have watched several thousand of them but this is one that will stay with you and not because of the gore. What really bothers me though is Rosie Day. Not because she did a bad job, all of the actors did a superb job portraing their respective roles, but because she was underage when filming. There are some very violent and a ton of sexual scenes that no minor has any business being part of. While she was almost 18 at the time, it still left a very sour feeling in my gut. Other thant that, absolutely brilliant movie. The cover however is the worst choice they did besides casting a minor. This is not a movie about anything supernatural. It's worse than that. Much worse... It's a movie about war and the trafficking of women. It's about how fucked up humans can be and what monsters get rich throughout a war. If you can stomache it, it's a must watch.

Horrific. Suspenseful. A cacophony brought to heed by silence. I think I tend to overuse this word, but, brutal barely scratches the surface. I have seen a plethora of "most disturbing movies ever made" and this one is now easily sitting on that list. I read a review where someone said it was empty, and I feel like they didn't understand anything about what they watched. This is far from empty. Beaten down characters trying to navigate cruelty, despair, and the worst the world has to offer. Dealing with deafness in an environment where every single sense is important. You will have to suspend some disbelief here and there, the movie isn't perfect but I think it definitely has something to say. Not remotely for the faint of heart. Consider yourself warned, this is not an easy watch.
