- abovetheclouds637 de março de 2026I came to this movie from the RLM rankings of all the Sam Raimi movies, never having heard of it. Jay and Rich Evans compared this movie to The Man With No Name trilogy. Personally, moments of this reminded me more of "Once Upon a Time in the West." This movie is a hidden treasure of style and has great character and story arcs. Visually, the movie blew me away. The use of color, angles, and close-ups were very Leone. The actors mostly did fantastic, and I have no complaints. I think the strongest performance came from Russel Crowe. Without spoiling things, his transformation was a perfect example of "show, don't tell" character writing. Sharon Stone seemed kinda lost sometimes as this kind of role was well outside the kind of characters she tended to play, but she hit her stride at a point and you can tell where she becomes comfortable in character. Gene Hackman is his usual self- he plays such a believable villain in a lot of movies he's in, and he's in his element here. Additionally, there was Keith David, who didn't have a whole lot of screen time here but I think the "Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game should have been the "Seven Degrees of Keith David." He shows up in so many places but I never get tired of seeing him. I loved this movie. I was sorely tempted to restart the movie and watch it a second time right after finishing it. I think it's on a level with "Tombstone," if not "Once Upon a Time in the West."

- eif99926 de janeiro de 2025Thought it'd be a fun rewatch. Liked Hackman a lot, but the rest seemed pretty thin. Never for once did I feel i was anywhere but on a film set. Fun that the cast is a Who's Who below Stone.

- Peter Bickford8 de dezembro de 2025From the "guilty pleasures" school of Westerns that hit different after three decades of girl-bossery taught us to wince at the mere mention of a too-perfect female protagonist. And still, as silly and trope-filled as the premise is, it's consistently entertaining, filled with gleefully scenery-chewing performances from all involve (except Crowe, who gives a disarmingly heartfelt performance in one of the most implausibly written roles he'll ever have).
