The Prestige Ratings & Reviews
- cyberbillpApril 4, 2025This ranks amoung the best of movies. When you are told in plain english what is going on in the movie, and yet, you know for sure it's some thing else, and then in the end, everything comes full circle and you marvel at the genius of the entire experience. What a great movie. Being a period piece and the subject matter, I always feared it was a rip off of the Houdini legend or something. But it's not. It's authentically new and clever and deeply engrossing. You can only watch it for the first time, once. So save that experience for a time when you can give it your full attention, because it's full of nuance while still being direct. It's Christopher Nolan at his best.

- mickerdoo3d agoThe period and set dressing are incredible. Great ideas for the secrets of both acts. Well played rivalry. Bale, Jackman and Caine deliver.
- M08YJuly 17, 2025The Prestige is a one of a kind masterpiece. It pulls you in with the bright eyed optimism of young and hopeful magicians only to drag you down a dark path of rivalry and obsession. The leads turn out to be some of the worst people imaginable with absolutely no regard for the lives of anyone else. Nolan manages to create facinating and interesting characters that almost everyone can agree are horrile. The performances are top notch accross the board (Save Andy Serkis' accent) and the dialogue sleek. The pacing is like a Rolly Royce, Smooth but Fast. I've watched this film several times and pick up missed setups every time. The 4K Bluray is solid if not spectacular.
- RyezooFebruary 14, 2025Watching this for a second time was an amazing experience. Knowing what to look for made me appreciate this film even more.
- Vincent ReggianniniJuly 11, 2025I have talked about “The Prestige” many times. An absolutely brilliant movie. Layered, multiple meanings. Quotes that mean one thing at first, but then something deeply powerful later on. The first time you watch it you will be confused, overwhelmed. “Are you watching closely?” The second time you will see how everything ties together. “I lied, it was agony.” The third time you will see how the movie tells you the answers over and over, again and again. You are literally beaten over the head with answers, but you refuse to believe. “You want to be fooled.” The fourth time will tear your heart out - watching two men sacrifice everything they have for the sake of their reputations. Sacrifices that forces them both into situations they cannot back out of, hurting not just themselves but everyone around them. “Not today, you don’t mean that.” They each are on a one-way track to doom, where even their true feelings are scoffed at by the ones they love the most. They made their choices and their lives are torn apart by the world they have molded around them. “If people knew the truth they’d scream.” Ironies, sleight of hand, misdirection, truth shrouded in lies and the inevitable pain of realizing that each man had a destiny to fulfill, ending up exactly how and where they both deserved and didn’t deserve. “It was the look on their faces…” In my opinion, Nolan’s best film.
- darsanJune 6, 2025“the audience knows the truth, the world is simple. it’s miserable, solid all the way through. but if you could fool them, even for a second, then you could make them wonder. And then you got to see something very special.” one of the most underrated christopher nolan film out there and it was better the second time.
- Spaceman JoeMay 30, 2025I didn’t like it much until the end and it all made sense
- Mister ArnMay 14, 2025"The Prestige" unfolds much like a magic trick, with all its elements laid bare from the start, yet it still manages to mislead us. It's a masterclass in storytelling, albeit with a few gaps, but thoroughly captivating.
- Dany EstalloMarch 30, 2025I absolutely love this film, it was a thirst-watch for Hugh and Christian but holy fucking shit (third watch) I'm not much of a Nolan watcher and there I say this is his most interesting film. In my third watch, you'll notice little tiny bits (The knots, the random love interests, etc) Everything about this film is perfect.
- The Gutter MonkeyFebruary 7, 2025The film itself is like a great magic trick, where once you know how it's done, you'll be kicking yourself for not realizing sooner.
- Daniel GustavssonOctober 11, 2024Honestly. I get what the movie was going for but... it is way too simplistic. The whole science part of it was seriously underwhelming. And the characters motives for doing what they do, seems a bit flimsy after a while. The acting is also not the greatest. And I expected much more from the twist as well. Funnily enough the twist is exactly like they say in the movie, too simple. The science stuff and the magic is unfortunately what could have made this movie super interesting, and it is barely explored. Disappointing.
