What makes The Perfect Neighbor so gripping is its unwavering commitment to its format. There are no dramatic reenactments, no talking-head interviews, no omniscient narrator guiding the audience. It is, instead, a stark and unfiltered look at how an entitled misuse of authority can create a slow-moving disaster. The woman at the center of it all—who remains largely offscreen save for occasional glimpses in the officers’ cameras—is the type of figure we’ve come to recognize too often in viral news clips: someone who wields law enforcement like a weapon, escalating mundane interactions into dangerous situations, all under the guise of being a “concerned citizen.” When the film started, I thought I knew how this would play out falling into some of the ACAB genre of police body cam footage films. But that’s really not the case here. Really want to encourage to people to check this out.

I think this movie was a solid argument for Stand Your Ground laws. Shooting at anyone through a locked steel door is not self defense or stand you ground, and has nothing to do with this case. I thought the police asking about whether the shooter researched stand your ground was a red herring. I thought the shooter's argument that she feared for her life was weak at best. This wasn't about race, but they tried to make it about race, just like everything that comes out of Hollywood. I thought the text on the sceen implying that white folks where killing black folks en masse was misleading. FBI crime statistics do not support that assumption. This was about an idiot with a gun and an overly aggressive door knocking neighbor. Bad (and stupid) shoot, and the sentence was appropriate. What I really took to heart was to stay off of my neighbor's property, because they could be crazy and homicidal.

I can't deny it's powerful, hard to watch, and really ingeniously made. All the reality is laid out before you, no bias, you can judge. Impressive!

It was solid overall, well put together, engaging, and satisfying in how justice ultimately played out. However, the inclusion of the BLM movement themes felt forced and repetitive. At this point, it’s starting to come across more like a predictable talking point than a genuine call for change. The same chants and speeches we’ve been hearing since the 50s, 60s, and 70s keep getting recycled, but the results remain the same. We’ve got to face it, repeating the same protests and slogans like “No Justice, No Peace!” isn’t moving the needle anymore. True progress requires strategy, unity, and knowing how to navigate the system effectively (Not to forget to mention how we accept "street-life" and ghetto and ratchet mindsets). There’s a difference between being “woke” and being awake. It’s time we stop letting ourselves be used and start thinking critically about real solutions, legally first, and only escalating when absolutely necessary.

They should have titled this document, “KAREN.”

This documentary was good and it also made me sad. I really liked how they put it together with all the footage. I'm sad for those kids.

An overly long explanation for why people need Ring cameras.

This might be the most affecting documentary I've seen since....ever? I feel like the production team behind this changed the game for documentaries. They were able to construct a timeline using only body cam footage, audio interviews and court room footage. With these tools alone they were able to tell a complete story; no talking heads, no reenactments — just the drama/intensity that comes from capturing real life people and a community. Such an awful and upsetting situation. My heart breaks for Ajike's family.

I didn't like the format. This would have been better as a proper documentary, more like a dateline episode,, we don't even see the court proceedings. Literally just police footage the whole way through. Was she crazy? Probably, but we have very little to go on, as the police state themselves in the film that if it's not on camera then how can you know who's telling the truth? I don't get why nobody had proper CCTV installed after all this so called crazy stuff happened. Of course it's great that Americans have the right to bear arms is it not? 🙄 People are always so much safer.
