The Mummy Ratings & Reviews
- BrandonCFAugust 4, 2025Without a doubt my favorite of the "Universal Monster Movies". Everything just clicks with this one. It's timeless to me. It doesn't even feel like this movie is almost a century old to me, I just lose myself. Boris Karlof really shows off his acting chops here imo. Cinematography and effects all feel right here and you can easily forget it's in B&W. Very cool movie. 2 thumbs up for sure!
- LivewireAdminDecember 2, 2025Great sets, miniatures and special effects (for the time). I found the story to be slow and somewhat uninteresting. The actors were decent for the dialogue they were given. One thing I find myself enjoying about these older Universal monster movies is the quietness. These filmmakers were not afraid to let the movie linger in silence and build atmosphere/tension. It might be generational bias but I consider 1999's The Mummy the definitive version of this story. I'm surprised Universal didn't turn to Stephen Sommers in the early 2000's to try and get a shared universe going. Maybe his attempt at that was 2004's Van Helsing and that was pretty bad so never mind lol
