Gordan Bombay ist ein Staranwalt. Bei seinen gewonnenen Prozessen ging jedoch nicht immer alles mit rechten Dingen zu, Gordan ist keine Maßnahme zu unmoralisch. Als er eines Tages betrunken am Steuer erwischt wird, muss er zur Strafe ein kleines und schlechtes Kinder-Hockey-Team zu coachen, um endlich so etwas wie Verantwortungsbewusstsein zu lernen. Erst ist er wenig begeistert, war früher jedoch selber ein begeisterter Spieler und willigt schließlich ein. Anfangs hagelt es Niederlage über Niederlage und auch die Chemie zwischen dem Coach und seinem Team stimmt überhaupt nicht. Mit der Zeit verdient er sich jedoch den Respekt der Kinder und bringt ihnen bei zu gewinnen. Bald schon ist auch ein Sponsor mit an Bord und gibt dem Team den Namen "The Ducks". Im Finale treffen sie auf Gordons ehemaliges Team, das immer noch vom damaligen Coach trainiert wird. Damit bietet sich auch für den Anwalt die Möglichkeit, mit seiner Vergangenheit klar Schiff zu machen...

The underdog hockey story is simple but full of heart, and the characters are fun and memorable. The big games, the training, and all the little quirks really stick with you. Even now, it’s easy to see why it became such a classic — funny, charming, and packed with that ’90s energy that still makes it a feel-good watch.
