The Mask Ratings & Reviews
- TheDesertLadDecember 6, 2025Pretty obvious this movie inspired a LOT of millennial humor we see today in the 2010s and 2020s... What is funny is that this movie is funny for all the reasons it wasn't originally written for. It wants you to laugh at one joke that isn't funny, but does something mild that's funnier than you think.
- Ecto-1ANovember 18, 2025💚 Proof that CGI didn’t need to be good… just goofy. What’s unique about The Mask is that it still holds up even after 30 years. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Jim Carrey takes this violent, off-the-wall comic and brings it to life on the big screen, all while reshaping it into something broader, funnier, and more kid-friendly. At a time when Hollywood was leaning heavily on CGI and when the technology was still in its infancy, The Mask somehow makes it work. Its blend of live-action realism and exaggerated cartoon visual effects feels intentional, playful and completely in sync with the movie’s personality. The film never takes itself too seriously, and it shouldn’t; its charm comes from leaning into the absurd. Even though Carrey had been working in film for over a decade, it was his “1994 trilogy” that catapulted him into full-blown superstardom. The Mask stands out among them for its unique mix of style, humor and early CGI that somehow still looks great today.
