The Lighthouse Ratings & Reviews

A two-man play on a smallish budget but effective. Not as terrible as folks here getting the vapors because it’s not the other movie called The Lighthouse. We don’t have to take a side nerds. I initially called it a faith-based film but now I'm not so sure. There's too much bible stuff, but it didn't amount to anything. Lighthouses are hypnotic to me. Lonely and isolated it’s no wonder Hopper moved from nighthawks to lighthouse seascapes. Two fine performances from the ruddy gingers. I wish they were in a proper lighthouse instead of the smallish wood tower that did not impress.

Crow shows an ability to quickly right his ship anytime things start to take on too much water.
Film Inquiry

The film shouldn't be billed as a thriller; as an engaging drama The Lighthouse is one of the best locked-room dramas that Britain has ever produced, and it works as an impressive showcase of the talents behind it.
ReelViews
James Berardinelli
The high production values, excellent acting, and strong writing make this a cut above what is often accorded this sort of release pattern.
Los Angeles Times
Noel Murray
Jones and Jibson (the latter of whom also worked on the script) play this material like an intimate theater piece, finding the finer nuances in their characters' simmering animosity.
Variety
Guy Lodge
Crow and his two fine, Welsh-burred leads commit fully to the anguished, nerve-fraying cause, but their efforts can't conceal a certain thinness to the dramatic material...
The Hollywood Reporter
Frank Scheck
Based on real-life events, The Lighthouse depicts its dramatic situations in credible and compelling fashion.
Film Threat
Norman Gidney
The psychological drama that plays out is a well-produced piece, clean and effective at times, yet it somehow lacks the inventiveness to transcend and become something far more.
