The storyline drifts into odd territory, mixing techno‑thriller ideas with pseudo‑mysticism, and the result is often more confusing than compelling. Adding to the awkwardness is the decision to slap a blonde wig on the lead character, a choice that looks distractingly artificial and undermines the performance. It’s easy to understand why Stephen King distanced himself from the adaptation, as the movie bears little resemblance to his original short story. While The Lawnmower Man has a certain nostalgic charm as a relic of early digital‑age anxieties, it ultimately feels like a misguided attempt at visionary sci‑fi.
