- RichardOctober 21, 2025This one’s a bit of a genre smoothie, part supernatural noir, part action-fantasy, with a dash of D&D campaign energy. It’s not flawless (some of the lore gets tangled in its own smoke), but it’s got charm, momentum and a cast that knows exactly what kind of movie they’re in. Vin Diesel plays Kaulder, an immortal witch hunter with a tragic past and a wardrobe full of leather coats. He broods, he burns things and he delivers lines like he’s narrating a metal album. Elijah Wood and Michael Caine show up to class things up and Rose Leslie brings some grounded spark to the spell slinging. The CGI holds up surprisingly well, the world-building is just intriguing enough and the whole thing feels like it was made by people who genuinely love this kind of pulp fantasy. It’s not trying to be prestige, it’s trying to be cool. And sometimes, that’s enough. Would I buy the Blu-ray? Maybe if it came with a replica of Kaulder’s sword. For now, the stream did the trick.
